Can a budget app remember what I usually pay for things I buy often?

Last updated: November 1, 2026

In short: Wiozen Ledger's assistant does. If you recorded something under the same name at least twice in the last 90 days, say coffee, then “bought coffee” with no amount brings up the last price you paid and the same account. The card says “I estimated the amount from your recent records” and you confirm it. When the price goes up, you say the new amount once and that amount comes up next time.

An example: coffee

  • Monday: “Bought coffee, 4.50, cash.” If you have no Coffee category, the assistant may ask for one; you pick Cafe. The entry is saved with the note “coffee”.
  • Wednesday: “4.50 on coffee.” The second entry goes in with the same note, account and category. Now it is a habit.
  • Friday: “Bought coffee.” You gave no amount or account. The card comes up as $4.50, Cafe, Cash, with the estimate notice under it. You press Save.
  • The price goes up: “Bought coffee, 4.90.” An amount you say always beats the estimate. From then on, “bought coffee” suggests $4.90.

How is a habit worked out?

On every message the app looks at your income and expense entries from the last 90 days. Entries with the same note count as one group when they share the type, category and account; capital letters and extra spaces don't matter. A group with at least two entries is a habit, and the newest entry's amount is the one used.

Entries without a note have a stricter rule: the last two in the same category and account must have exactly the same amount, like a subscription you pay at the same price every month. Installment purchases never become habits. The assistant gets the 40 most repeated habits.

This list isn't stored anywhere. It is rebuilt from your entries on every message, so if you delete an entry or change its note, the habit changes on the next message.

Why the note matters

A habit is recognised by its note. When the assistant prepares an entry it fills the note with the short name you used: “coffee”, “bagel”, “parking”. Entries from the form count too, as long as you write the same note. Write “coffee” one day and “latte” the next and they count as two different things.

If you buy the same thing from two different accounts, you get two separate habits. Then it helps to name the account: “bought coffee, on the card”.

What it never guesses

For something that isn't a habit it never guesses an amount; it asks. Say “bought some stationery” and it asks how much.

Something whose price changes every time, like groceries, also becomes a habit once you have saved it twice with the note “groceries”, and “went grocery shopping” then brings up the last grocery amount as an estimate. For spending like that, say the amount in the sentence: “64 on groceries”.

If the estimate is wrong, press Cancel and say the right amount. If you saved it by mistake, fix the entry on the Transactions page; the assistant can't change existing entries.

How this differs from templates

You set up a template yourself and it becomes a button on the form. A habit is something the assistant works out on its own; you set nothing up. They work together: templates help when you use the form, habits when you speak or type to the assistant. The quick entry guide covers templates.

Which plan has it?

The assistant is on both plans. The free plan has 10 assistant messages a day, 1 account and 30 records a month, with no transfers between accounts and no credit card accounts. Pro has 100 a day and every section open. Each message counts once; in a voice message, turning your voice into text counts once more. Every new account gets 14 days of Pro without a card; after that Pro is $12.99 a year or $1.99 a month in Türkiye and $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month elsewhere. Details are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the assistant store my habits somewhere?
No. They are recalculated from the last 90 days of entries on every message, added to the request as a short summary and not kept anywhere afterwards.
How many times do I need to record something before it counts as a habit?
At least twice in the last 90 days, with the same note, account and category.
What happens when the price changes?
Say the new amount once. A habit always uses the newest entry's amount, so that is what comes up next time.
Is an estimated amount saved without my confirmation?
No. The card says the amount is an estimate, and the entry goes into your ledger only when you press Save.
