How do you permanently delete your budget app account and data, and what is kept?
Last updated: November 3, 2026
In short: You delete it from the Delete my account and data card in Settings. The page first suggests downloading a copy, then asks you to type “delete” to confirm. When you press Delete everything, your accounts, transactions, people, notes and settings are gone for good and you are signed out. Two things remain: your payment records, kept for tax and bookkeeping (only your Wiozen user ID, the amount, the date and the transaction number), and your Wiozen account. Deleting is available on every plan.
Step by step
- Go to Settings from the Menu and open the Delete my account and data card.
- Download a copy first: your whole ledger as JSON and your transactions as a CSV file Excel opens. Once deleted, the data can't be brought back. The same two files are also in the Backup and export section of Settings. The export guide explains what the files contain.
- Read the What happens list. If you have a subscription, it ends right away and charges already made are not refunded automatically.
- Type delete in the confirmation box and press Delete everything. If you type anything else, deletion does not start.
What gets deleted?
Everything in your ledger: accounts and cards, transactions, installments, people and IOU records, items, notes, categories, tags and settings. Wiozen Ledger keeps each user's ledger in a separate file. Deleting removes that file entirely, then the user record and any open sessions. Your chats with the assistant are never stored, so there is no chat history to delete.
An older copy of your ledger stays in the server's daily backups for a while longer. Those copies disappear as the backups rotate; they exist for a failure on our side, not to be handed back to you. The backup section of the export guide gives the period.
What is kept?
Payment records. If you paid for Pro, a line for each payment is kept for tax and bookkeeping. That line holds only your Wiozen user ID, the amount, the date and the transaction number; none of your entries or names are in it.
Your Wiozen account. You sign in to Wiozen Ledger with your Wiozen account, and that account is used by other Wiozen apps too. Deleting Ledger deletes only your Ledger data; your Wiozen account, your balance and your data in other apps stay where they are. If you paid for Pro from your Wiozen balance, whatever is left in that balance stays there too and works in other Wiozen apps. If you also want to close your Wiozen account, you do that separately in the account settings at account.wiozen.com.
Before you delete: would something else do?
You don't need to delete your ledger to stop paying for Pro. When a subscription ends or isn't renewed, no record is deleted, your account moves to the free plan, and your past records stay visible and exportable; the Pro ending guide has the details.
If you just won't use the app for a while, the ledger waits. After 12 months without a sign-in you get an email 30 days before the ledger is deleted; sign in during that time and it is kept.
Which file should you download?
The two files do different jobs. The JSON file holds your whole ledger and is the only format Wiozen Ledger can load back. The CSV file holds only your transactions, one row per record with date, type, account, amount, category, tags and note columns; it is for reading in Excel or moving to another tool and can't be loaded back. Download both, check that they open, and keep them on your computer or in a cloud folder before you press delete.
If you come back later
Sign in again with the same Wiozen account and you start with an empty ledger, which asks for your main currency again just like the first time. To get your old records back, load the JSON file you downloaded on the day you deleted into the new ledger with the import in Settings. Import accepts only Wiozen Ledger's own JSON file, into an empty ledger, on Pro. The Pro trial is given once per Wiozen account, so a second trial does not start.
Which plan has it?
Deleting and exporting are open and free on both plans. The import you need to load a JSON file back is on Pro. The free plan has 1 account and 30 records a month. Every new account gets 14 days of Pro without a card; after that Pro is $12.99 a year or $1.99 a month in Türkiye and $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month elsewhere. Details are on the pricing page.
Frequently asked questions
- Can you restore a deleted ledger?
- No. Deletion can't be undone. To get your data back you need the JSON copy you downloaded before deleting; on Pro you can load that file into a new ledger.
- Is the rest of my subscription refunded when I delete?
- Not automatically. The subscription ends right away and charges already made are not refunded automatically.
- Is my Wiozen account deleted too?
- No. Only your Wiozen Ledger data is deleted. Your Wiozen account, your balance and your data in other Wiozen apps stay.
- Can I delete on the free plan too?
- Yes. Deleting and exporting are open and free on every plan.
- How long does deletion take?
- Your ledger file is deleted and you are signed out the moment you press Delete everything. Older copies in the server backups go as the backups rotate.
