Can a budget app be installed on your phone like an app, and does it work offline?

Last updated: November 3, 2026

In short: It can be installed. Wiozen Ledger is a web app: you don't download it from a store, you add it to your home screen from the browser, and after that it opens in its own window without an address bar. In Chrome or Edge, press Install on the Install the app card in Settings; on an iPhone, choose Add to Home Screen from Safari's Share menu. It does not work offline. Your ledger lives on the server, not on the phone; with no connection you can't add entries or open your ledger, and you only see the “You're offline” page.

Installing on Android and on a computer

  • Open ledger.wiozen.com in Chrome or Edge and sign in.
  • Go to Settings from the Menu. If the browser offers installation, the page shows an Install the app card.
  • Press Install and confirm in the browser's window. The icon goes to your home screen on a phone, or to the desktop or start menu on a computer. You can close the browser tab after installing.
  • If the card doesn't show, the app may already be installed or your browser doesn't offer this kind of install. Try again in Chrome or Edge.

Installing on iPhone and iPad

There is no Install button on an iPhone, because Safari doesn't let websites open that install window. The card in Settings tells you the way instead: in Safari, tap the Share button, then choose Add to Home Screen. Opened from that icon, Wiozen Ledger runs like a separate app rather than as one of your Safari tabs. It asks for microphone permission here too; without it voice entry doesn't work and you carry on by typing.

What does the installed app do differently?

The pages and your entries are the same. Installing doesn't unlock anything; whatever you do in the browser you can do in the installed app. The difference shows when you open it: the app has its own window, with no address bar or tabs. The same goes for a computer, where the app installed from Chrome or Edge sits in the taskbar with its own icon.

On Android, press and hold the icon to see three shortcuts that open the assistant, the new entry form or the transactions list directly. iPhone doesn't show these shortcuts. On a phone, the middle button of the bottom menu also goes to the Assistant. Voice entry still asks for microphone permission in the installed app; the voice entry guide explains how it works.

What happens without internet?

Wiozen Ledger does not keep your ledger on the phone. Your records sit on the server, in a separate file for each user, and every page loads them from there. Reports and charts are also built on the server each time, so no old report shows while you're offline either. The only things the app stores on your device are the icons and the files that draw the pages. Those files are the same for everyone and hold none of your data.

When the connection drops, the page you wanted is replaced by the “You're offline” page, which says: “Entries are only saved while you're online, so nothing is stored on this device.” Once you're back online, press Try again. If the connection goes while the app is open, the page on screen may stay visible, but moving to another page or saving won't reach the server. There is no feature that saves an entry offline and syncs it later. If you don't want to forget something you bought on a plane or underground, jot it in your phone's notes app and enter it when you have a connection.

There is an upside too: if you lose your phone, your ledger doesn't go with it. Sign in with your Wiozen account on another device and every record is there.

Updates, and a connection lost while saving

You don't need to update the installed app. Pages come from the server every time you open them, so when a new version ships the installed app shows it too; there is no update button like store apps have. If something looks out of date, closing and reopening the app is enough.

If the connection drops just as you press Save, the entry may not have reached your ledger. When you're back online, check the Transactions page: if the entry isn't there, enter it again; if it is, don't enter it twice. The same goes for assistant cards: a card that never showed Saved may not have been written.

Which plan has it?

Installing the app is open and free on both plans, and your plan's limits apply in the installed app as well. The free plan has 1 account and 30 records a month. Every new account gets 14 days of Pro without a card; after that Pro is $12.99 a year or $1.99 a month in Türkiye and $39.99 a year or $6.99 a month elsewhere. Details are on the pricing page.

Frequently asked questions

Is Wiozen Ledger on the App Store or Google Play?
No. Wiozen Ledger is not in the stores. You add it to your home screen from the browser and it opens like an app.
Can I add entries without internet?
No. Entries are only saved while you're online. Without a connection the “You're offline” page opens and nothing is stored on the device.
If I remove the icon, is my data deleted?
No. Removing the icon only removes the shortcut; your ledger stays on the server. To delete the ledger itself, use the Delete my account and data page in Settings.
Can I use the same ledger on my phone and my computer?
Yes. Every device you sign in to with the same Wiozen account shows the same ledger, because the ledger lives on the server, not on the device.
Do I need to update the installed app?
No. Pages come from the server each time you open them, so a new version shows up in the installed app by itself.
